Evaluation: 3.What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I found that audience research is
important as it gives you a chance to find out what your potential consumers
want, as well as they are able to give feedback which can be used to improve
the product.
I have conducted an audience
research after I have finished my product, in order to find out how it can be
improved.
I have produced two questionnaires,
one questioning the main product and the other one asking questions about the
sponsorship sequence. Both questionnaires were made up of closed questions, as
they are easier to analyse.
In the questionnaire 6 people
preferred the advert without the voiceover, which influenced my final decision
of not including the voiceover.
I have also presented my audience
with two version of my advert, one with each clip lasting 00:00:10 seconds
(which I initially have produced) and another one where each clip lasted
00:00:05. 6 people said that they prefer the advert with faster pace. Therefore
I have decided to make it a final version.
On the other hand, my audience
questionnaire on sponsorship sequence has shown that majority of the audience
could not tell what the programme sponsored is until the end. However I have
decided that I will not make any changes to that, as I think it is not
necessary because the audience will learn to associate the sequence with the
programme. However to improve it, I could have used music used on the X-factor,
however I did not proceed with this idea as I thought that my sponsorship sequence
will be taken down due to copyright.
Also most of my audience preferred
the sponsorship sequence without a voiceover, as most of them said that they
thought that the quality of sound was not great. Therefore if I was to do this
project again, I would make sure I use better microphone to make sure I have
better sound.
Also doing audience feedback allowed
me to look at the development of my product from different view and get an
insight into what my audience enjoys.
For example I have asked my potential consumers what they thought of the adverts and i have got quite similar feed back from them and therefore i have decided to make the changes that they have suggested.

Evaluation: 2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
For my project I have created two TV adverts, as well as a
web pop-up and a sponsorship sequence. Both, my main product and my ancillary
texts have similarities and differences.
Creating ancillary products allowed me to create continuity
and develop the brand recognition, which in effect can lead up to more sales of
the product.
The purpose of my main product and ancillary texts was to
promote the brand I have created (Bambino). I find that although both, main
product and ancillary texts have the same purpose they achieve it in different
ways and reaching two different types of audience. For example I find that TV
adverts and sponsorship sequence manage to engage the audience and create brand
awareness, whereas web pop-up is very quick and therefore it is able to catch
the attention of potential audience. I also find that main product and
sponsorship sequence target slightly different audience, compared to web
pop-up, as TV adverts and sponsorship sequence target older people and families
who are watching TV whereas web pop targets younger people who tend to spend
more time of the internet.
Due to the nature of my product I do not have specific target
audience, as it can be consumed by anyone, although I have decided to target
mainly families with children. I believe that I have managed to do so by
combining main product and ancillary texts, as I think that choosing to do animated
advert, web pop up and sponsorship sequence is able to catch children’s
attention.
Furthermore in order to continue brand continuity I have used
the same characters in TV adverts and both ancillary texts which would make
people associate the characters from my products with the brand. Also in order
for parents to relate to my advert I have included a parent character in one of
my adverts.
I have also used similar music and sounds in order for the
viewers to associate the sounds in the advert with the adverts and the brand,
as well as I have mainly used diegetic sound which creates verisimilitude and
therefore the adverts are more relatable for the viewers.
I find that my sponsorship sequence and both adverts conform
to the uses and gratifications theory. The uses and gratifications theory has
four main principles; surveillance, personal identity, personal relationships
and diversion.
- · Surveillance refers to the fact that many people use media in order to become more are of the world around them. I believe my adverts conform to this as they create awareness of brand and therefore it lets the audience become aware of new brands.
- · Personal identity refers to the fact that the audience can relate to the text. I think that the audience are able to relate to my adverts, as they portray common emotions and therefore it is easy to relate to.
- · Personal identity refers to the fact that people are able to build relationships through the media. I believe that my sponsorship sequence conforms to this, as it is shown before popular TV show and therefore people are likely to watch it and start conversations about it and therefore build relationships.
- · Diversion refers to the fact that people are able to escape the “real world” through the use of media. I believe that my web pop-up is very effective in helping people to escape their real problems. Pop ups are found on the web pages and therefore people are escaping the reality and when they see pop-ups they’re likely to pay attention to them and if they are intrigued by them they are likely to click on them and therefore reinforce escapism from reality.
I also find that all of my products conform to AIDA theory;
this is because I find that all of my products are successful in attracting attention, arousing interest, simulate desire and take action.
- · Attention – I believe that my products are very effective at attracting attention, as they are quite unusual due to the fact that they are animated, which is not very conventional and not as popular.
- · Interest – I think that all of my products rouse interest, again due to the fact that they are quite unique in their form.
- · Desire – Now that the audience is interested in my product, they will desire to find out more about it which would lead them to the next step – action.
- · Action –once the audience is interested, they are likely to take an action. In this case the action likely to be taken is to go out and buy the product.

Creating web pop-up
I have used pictures from my first advert in my web pop-up, as people might be able to recognise the brand from an advert.
Editing:
First I have cropped my images into square, as I think it would look better on the webpage.
I've done this by using the crop tool and selecting square resolution in the settings, in order to make it into a perfect and even square.
Then I've finished the image by adding the name of the brand, in order to make sure that people know what the pop-up is advertising.

Making the pop-up:
I have used gifmake.me to make the pop-up. I have uploaded my images onto the website and when they were loaded I have adjusted some settings in order to make my pop-up effective.
I have edited the timing to 650 milliseconds as it seemed to be a suitable timing, as it made the transitions between images smooth and it is not too long and it is able to grab the attention.

Sonds used
I have used a sound of rain in both of my adverts. I find it effective as it follows my theme of nature as well as it reflects the mood of the characters in both adverts and therefore viewers are able to relate to the advert. I have chosen to use a sound of rain because rain usually connotates sadness, as well as it creates moody atmosphere.
I have used a sound of unwrapping paper in both of my adverts and sponsorship sequence. I have used it in order to represent my product and excitement and anticipation that comes when unwrapping the sweet. I also find that using a sound of unwrapping paper adds to verisimilitude of my adverts, as you are able to hear the sounds of unwrapping in real life when unwrapping a sweet.
I have used this music at the end of my first advert. I find it effective as it is very happy and therefore represents the effect that I would I expect people to have after watching the advert, as they would be able to relate to the characters in the advert.
I have used the sound of steps in both of my adverts, in order to maintain verisimilitude as well as i think that by using similar sound in both of my main products, the audience will learn to recognise my adverts and the brand.
I have used the sound of child giggles at the end of both adverts, as I think it is very effective at grabbing the attention of the audience as well as children laughing usually symbolises happiness, which reflects the ideology of my brand.
I have used the sound of chewing in order to maintain verisimilitude of my product.
I have decided that in order to create more emphasis on a mood of character in the beginning of the adverts, I am going to insert sad music. I believe that it is effective s it allows to portray the mood better as well s viewer is able to relate to it.

Voiceovers
I have recorded multiple voice overs, for both adverts and sponsorship sequence. I have also manipulated the voice on the recordings in order to make it sound more child like in order to reflect part of my target audience.
However I find that the quality of the sounds is not the best, therefore if i was to record more voiceovers I would make sure i use better microphone.
